Digital Video Recording or DVR is a method of recording TV and Video digitally, by means of compressing the video signal using a video encoder, such as MPEG-2 (The same encoder used for DVD movies).
There are three main ways to record TV and Video digitally:
• A stand alone Set-Top Digital Video Recorder (like TiVo) that records to a built-in hard drive.
• A stand alone Set-Top DVD Recorder that records to a built-in DVD drive and/or a built-in hard drive.
• A Computer with a TV or Video Capture Card that records TV and Video to the Computers hard drive.
